Something I can do is throughing trash in its proper place, another thing I can do is to put kitchen waour marine environment and natural phenomena or disasters can also impact on important marine habitats, such as mangrove forests, seagrass meadows, and coral reefs. The current global climate changes, for example, have seen the gradual warming of our seas, which is having a major impact on the health of our coral reefs, with increased levels of coral bleaching. Coral bleaching occurs when the tiny algae that co-exit with corals abandon that relationship as a result of intolerable levels of habitat stress. This has a knock-on effect on fish populations and other organisms normally associated with a healthy coral reef.
Global climate concerns, as highlighted in the Kyoto Protocol and the Bali Climate Change Conference, have focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in promoting biodiversity conservation and protection. While the terrestrial environment is a more obvious example which reflects global climate change, the flow-on implications for marine biodiversity cannot be ignored. Papua New Guinea has an important role to play in addressing the impact of climate change on its exceptional biodiversity. Conserving our marine environment should be given high priority along with the development of strategies to reduce deforestation and forest degradation.
